.................................

what if your number of Etsy shop sales was translated into a year?

we've all been there. at 0. year 0.
waiting waiting for that 1st sale.

and then yay! it happens.
and it's 1.
and hopefully it builds and builds and eventually we get to numbers we at one time only dreamt of.
ah, life's like that, isn't it!

ten. one hundred. etc.

well that's the happy case for me.

my sales are about to cross over with my own living years. funny!

yesterday i reached 1969 sales.
and i thought to myself... .1969 - i love that number...
what a great year!

so i asked around to some other lovely handmade sellers ... what does your sales #, translated into a calendar year, bring to mind!

for example:
rikrak:
1969:
what a great a groovy year!

john lennon records *give peace a chance* in the montreal bed-in.
the first human lands on the moon.
the brady bunch premieres.
& woodstock shook the world.

so here's what some other fabulous sellers had to say about their sales/year! reflections from the past, or predictions into the future! (we can all dream to be there, can't we?!)

.............................................

emmsgems
in the year 56
"56 sales. Like in 56 A.D. only good things are to come for my little shop!
In 56 A.D, gems adorned chalices and crowns. Now, they adorn ears, wrists, and necks. 1,953 years ago, precious sparkle was coveted and adored, and this remains today. Beauty never goes out of style. Natural creation remains coveted."
so true, emms! so true!

GetReadySetGO
in 717:
"in the year 717 A.D. there wasn't a whole lot of documented fun or recreation goin on. ... when i think of the year 717 i think of my 6th grade history teacher. she was the greatest and actually made all of this stuff interesting. so that's my random take on this year, a year i can assuredly say i would stick out like a sore thumb in!"

and what a wonderfully fun addition you'd be, nicey!

shop clementine:
in 1769:
"I'm closing in on the birth of America!"
woohoo! yes indeed!

the june bride:
2007:
"the iPhone, Windows Vista, Virginia Tech, last Harry Potter book. Also the year my little boy was born, I traveled to Alaska and I discovered Etsy :)"
wow! what a year! {and yay finding etsy in '07 - me too!}

and now predictions into the future...

oktak:
in the year 2472
" I can't even imagine what the world would be like then... (but) hopefully, the survival of the whole planet would have trumped national, ethnic, tribal or religious interests, and we'd have learned to live together more peacefully, if not completely conflict-free.

AND ... we'll all be living like "The Jetsons"!!

oh the jetsons! wonderful!

lillyella
in 3753
"I can hardly imagine what life will be like 100 years from now let alone 2000! No one will have pinky fingers or an appendix, because they are just useless.... Hopefully we will be growing new body parts and organs for every one who needs them and cancer will be as easy to treat as the common cold."

i hope so too, nicey!

and tinymeat:
in 8881 AD
"The thought just made my head explode. Oh wait, it's 8881 A.D. I don't even have a head or physical body for that matter. What do I shovel the pie into?"

too true. too true!

......................

okee dokee!
so there are some fabulous etsyans, marking various wonderful years with their sales!

how about you?
what # are you at and what does that year make you think of?
come play!

......................

{ps: oh & be sure to join me this thurs. oct. 29th LIVE in the etsy virtual labs,
when we workshop packaging & wrapping up the sales we've made. and using our beautiful packages to take us to a new *era* of sales, too! woohoo!}

Back in 665 people were going through their own version of "Y2K"... but more like "Y2-666" :)... They were pretty terrified to enter the Year of the Beast! On Dec 31st, they counted down 10, 9, 8... worrying that all the candles would get blown out and not re-ignite... 7, 6, 5, scared that all the cows would go dry... 4, 3, 2, petrified that the ground would open them up and swallow them whole... 1!!!!! 666 came and went...everyone was ok. Then they all partied like it was 1999.

    Party!

  2. Hmmm, not easy to find events in the year 683 - though I did find this interesting:

The first uses of a "goose-egg" sign for zero appear about this time in Cambodia and Sumatra, although the Chinese had long used an empty space as a placeholder and later Mesopotamian numeration also used a sign as a placeholder; it is not clear when zero comes to be understood as a number and not just a placeholder.

  3. oh you nicies sure are great story-tellers!

    & poor Y2-666-ers! :)

    love it!

  5. In the year 0002 folks were still mourning the death of JC. The made-for-TV movie of his life was just coming out, and...whoa...non-paying buyer? Back to year 0001! Time warp. That's gonna freak people out. Especially the one-year-olds.

  6. Krafty Max Originals: 173

Well, I am still a long ways back, but...in that year the Roman Empire was given control of the Eastern Empire and Maximinus Thrax or Maxumimus I (Roman Emperor) was born. I am not sure exactly how that helps, but I think it just means that I am off to a great start and only more good can come! Thanks for the fun!

  7. hi rikrak! Congrats on your lucky number 1969! That has to be one of my fave years in history! I had a strange coincidence back in September when my shop sales hit 80 on the same day that my grama turned 80. I also realised that day that my first etsy front page was 08/08/08!! I wrote a little blog post about it, i was so excited:

  8. thanks for featuring my boots!
I am currently in the year 68.
In the year 68 AD Nero, the Roman Emperor, committed suicide. Yeesh!
On a lighter note, the Gospel of Mark was likely written.
Can't wait to get to the year 100!

In 425 AD, the Roman empire was headed to its end - But that's okay, because the Byzantine era came next, and it was pretty cool, too.

  10. I'm only at 150, but that's pretty exciting! 150 AD was a time of atlases, paper and, ooh, "geocentric cosmology" which is deliciously nerdy.

  11. A.D. 257, in sum: Rome vs. everybody else.
    -- Rome attacked Sardinia.
-- Rome battled Carthage at sea.
    -- Rome persecuted Christians.
    -- etc., etc.

It was a time of crisis for Rome. When I get one more sale the empire will break up into three competing states. And the Gothic hordes still hover on the horizon.

  12. I would be in 213 AD ....maybe in Rome, under the rule of Emperor Caracalla...or maybe in China, I would be Cao Cao, the prime minister of the Han dinasty :-)))

  13. Pinky fingers are important! Otherwise we'd have to wrap our yarn around our ring finger and it'll get caught up in our jewelry.

  14. Year 1348 (MCCCXLVIII)

Oh no, my year was not a good year, The Black Death was running rampant, this must explain the black cloud over my head. Gotta sell something to remove this cursed plague! : )

  16. 44 BC:

Julius Caesar, Dictator of the Roman Republic, is stabbed to death by Marcus Junius Brutus, Gaius Cassius Longinus, Decimus Junius Brutus and several other Roman senators on the Ides of March!

    44 AD:

Nuttin...nuttin happened, at least no one blogged about it on their slates and that's why I couldn't find anything!

Time to keep making sales so I can catch up the the British Invasion of the 60's!!!

Sep 2nd BC - The first of Cicero’s Philippics (oratorical attacks) on Mark Antony. He will make 14 of them over the next several months.
